Janaki Ammal helped pioneer indigenous approaches to preserving the environment in India. One of the last great untouched regions in Kerala (a place one of my first ever Facebook friends told me is God’s Country) owes a debt of gratitude to Ammal. In 1931 she earned a PhD from U of M: Go Blue! 😁✌
